Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival
On the third weekend of July 2019, music fans will flock to Kansas City's Liberty Memorial to enjoy the 19th annual Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival. Th2 2019 festival will showcase more than 50 blues and jazz artists as well as area high school music groups to celebrate Kansas City's unique musical heritage -- and summertime.
RAIN TENT Guests of the festival can again enjoy the cool comforts of the RAIN TENT. A new addition last year, the RAIN TENT caught on as a very popular spot.
The RAIN TENT is an innovative misting system that is medically proven to lower high body temperatures in under 30 seconds. The tent is environmentally friendly and has been used at other festivals and outdoor events around the country, including: Woodstock, Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic, World Cup Soccer and Lollapalooza.
No festival is complete without a barbeque. The Big Taste Grill is no ordinary backyard barbecue, which fits this unique event perfectly. Traveling from Wisconsin in its own semi-truck, the grill weighs more than 53,000 lbs. and is 65-feet long. The 12 grillmasters of the Big Taste Grill have the capacity to cook more than 750 brats at a time, or 2,500 per hour. Just like the great music, the grill will be fired up all weekend.
The Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival is always the third weekend in July (19-21) and held at Penn Valley Park on the grounds of the Liberty Memorial, the nation's only WWI memorial. The festival is a major attraction not just for Kansas Citians, but for regional, national and even international fans as well. Festival attendance has grown steadily each year, drawing more than 125,000 fans its last year. According to the economic impact research and study by Frank Jurden Ph.D. of The Service Management Group of Barkley Evergreen & Partners, the Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival generated an estimated $18.4 million for the local economy.
The Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival is the largest blues and jazz music festival in the region and appropriately, Kansas City is one of four world renowned blues & jazz cities. The festival was founded by the Kansas City Blues Society and the Kansas City Jazz Festival Committee, who in 1990 took their individual events and combined them into one festival.
